HURON-BRUCE — The Ontario government is celebrating local excellence and supporting stronger, more connected communities across Huron-Bruce with investments recognizing outstanding food retailers and expanding opportunities for seniors to stay active and engaged.
“Communities across Huron-Bruce are strengthened by the dedication of local organizations that support our residents, celebrate our agricultural roots, and create meaningful opportunities for people of all ages,” said Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron-Bruce.

2025 Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards
Both Hansen’s Your Independent Grocer in Exeter and the Southampton Foodland have received a 2025 Foodland Ontario Retailer Award – Silver Award of Merit, recognizing their outstanding efforts in promoting Ontario-grown fruits and vegetables, supporting Ontario foods, and helping customers access locally produced products. These awards highlight the important role local retailers play in strengthening Ontario’s agri-food sector and supporting farmers and producers across the province.
Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) Program
The Municipality of Bluewater is receiving $57,640 through the Seniors Active Living Centre Program to support the Bluewater Active Living Centre in Hensall. The funding will support programming and activities such as pickleball, craft workshops, gentle yoga, cards and walking groups, encouraging older adults to remain active, engaged, and connected within their community.

- Ontario now invests up to $55,000 for each Seniors Active Living Centre. That’s up from $50,000 last year and $42,700 the year before for operations and maintenance. There are now 416 Seniors Active Living Centre’s in Ontario.
