Liberals Still Don’t Know How Much Their Cap-and-Trade Scheme Will Cost
Queen’s Park – Today during Question Period, Ontario PC Critic for Environment and Cap-and-Trade Lisa Thompson (Huron-Bruce) asked the Liberal Government about the increased costs Ontario families can expect to see following the implementation of their cap-and-trade scheme.
“The government’s announcement yesterday provided no additional details and even less answers,” stated MPP Thompson. “Today during Question Period, they have once again proven that they have not done their homework – failing to provide the answers both Ontario businesses and families deserve,” said Thompson.
Despite the Liberal Government announcing their cap-and-trade plan a year ago, MPP Thompson remains dissatisfied with the responses she has received regarding cost and plan details. When Alberta unveiled its plan on Sunday, its government told Albertans exactly what the costs would be.
“This plan will impact Ontarians on everything from fuel, to groceries, to manufactured goods,” continued MPP Thompson. “The Government has an obligation to tell Ontario families what this plan will cost them per year before proceeding with cap-and-trade.”
“The Minister for Environment and Climate Change has even admitted they are not focusing on the cost of the plan, and that there has been little to no discussion on the issue.”
