MPP Thompson Debates Great Lakes Protection Act, 2015
Queen’s Park – Yesterday in the House, MPP Lisa Thompson (Huron-Bruce), debated why Bill 66, Great Lakes Protection Act, 2015, in its current form, should not pass third reading.
Among her primary concerns with the Bill was the power it gives the Minister for the Environment and Climate Change to override the existing decision-making powers afforded to municipal governments, particularly with respect to zoning by-laws.
The PC Caucus submitted 31 amendments to Bill 66 for consideration but unfortunately, all but one of the proposed amendments were struck down by the governing Liberals.
“For instance, a PC amendment to prohibit offshore Industrial Wind Turbines in the Great Lakes was quickly voted down in committee by the Liberal government” said Thompson.
