MPP Thompson Supports Ombudsman Investigation into Hydro One Billing Practices


(Queen’s Park) — “I give my full support to Ombudsman Marin’s decision to launch a full investigation into billing practices and customer service at Hydro One” said Lisa Thompson, MPP Huron-Bruce.

Yesterday, Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin announced the launch of a systemic investigation of Hydro One’s billing and customer service practices after a significant increase in complaints from Ontario ratepayers.  According to the Ombudsman’s office, they have received over 600 complaints about Hydro One since April 1, 2013.

“There are areas within Huron-Bruce that have experienced technical difficulties with Smart Meters, and the bills have either been delayed or simply incorrect.  One couple contacted my office after not receiving a bill for over six months”, said Thompson.  “They tried to get in touch with Hydro One about this issue, and had no success.”

“I am happy that Mr. Marin has committed to get to the bottom of these issues”.
